We are certainly blessed with some tasty crops coming in. After waiting a whole year to enjoy some of these fresh fruits and veggies it’s hard to tire of eating the same thing meal after meal, after meal. Though you may want to check back with us in September. We may have changed our tune… slightly, somewhat, most likely.
The cucumbers this year are exceptionally sweet. Don’t know what it is exactly but the taste is amazing. Never in our lives have we tasted such intensely flavorful and sweet cucumbers. Could it be that the soil is improving? You know how old time farmers would taste their soil for sweetness? Well, like Farmer D keeps saying it’s all about growing soil. After 20 plus years of composting, mulching and applications of our own citified animal manures perhaps this year the soil’s sweeter and that sweetness is being transferred onto the vegetables. Could be just our imagination but this summer’s produce is more flavorful and sweet!
Lots of cucumber salad being eaten this week. Besides, nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer’s day than a cool cucumber salad.

July 13, 2008 at 1:46 pmDo you have a place on your website where you put any of your recipes? Everything always looks so good. We were finally able to harvest enough from our garden for our first salad of the year. We are looking forward to lots more. 😀
