Another round of homegrown preservation
Fairlight, “ms nose in everybody’s business”, checks to see if Jordanne cleaned properly. Does it pass your inspection missy?
Silly chickens and curious goat – wonder what she’s thinking? Anyone coming to pet me?
The summer harvest has gone to this resident Freedom Gardener’s head
Sunday, was a busy, busy day!
Lots of garden work and preservation that kept us busy from sunup to sundown.
In the garden, worn out summer vegs were taken down and replaced with a fresh batch for late summer harvest. Fall crops are being planted in the greenhouse and winter seed supplies ordered.
A few of the “volunteer” (self sown) pumpkins complete with veggie ‘Freedom Gardens’ propaganda were harvested. Can you guess who’s Mr Pumpkin head?
Another round of water bath canning, preserving homegrown peaches, beans, figs, strawberries and plums (from a crop swap)
Weekly animal chores included cleaning out the coop and animal enclosure.
Just a typical day here on the family urban home-farm stead!
This Sunday we’ll be hitching up the wagon heading into town to participate at the Sustainable LA festival.

August 11, 2008 at 1:14 pmJust what are your “winter seed supplies”? What will you be able to grow over winter? We can usually manage lettuce, spinach, garlic and beets here in Tulsa – but not much beyond that…yet.
by the way – I would love to have a diagram of your green house to show my husband [or at least dimensions and a materials list]. He and our boys are going to build a greenhouse for us this fall – I like what you have built and would like to work with that design.
keep growing the inspiration!!!
🙂
