UNDER A CLOUD OF SMOKE

Fire burns right above the Rose Bowl

Massive fire raging over the San Gabriel Mountain range

This view is what the fire looked like last night from our garage roof

The Station fire continues to burn out of control scorching over 35 miles/20,000 acres.  Yesterday we thought the smoke was bad but today – today is much worse.  Everyone here is battling headaches, irritated eyes nose and throats.

Walking the goats yesterday around the Rose Bowl one could see how big the fire lines where going from Altadena/Pasadena are to the East and La Cresenta/La Canada to the West.

It’s sad to watch our favorite hiking trails, spots (Mt Lowe, Brown Mt, etc) go up in smoke.  Let’s hope and pray the condition change so that the firefighters can put out this large and devastating blaze.

Hopes and prayers for all of you. I just read ‘Hurricane Jimena has Mexico’s Baja California peninsula in its sights.’ on CNN. Perhaps you will get some of that rain?

Y’all are in my thoughts and prayers! I pray they can get it contained and stopped before it can do more damage.

Yesterday tehy were evacuating folk a mere two freeway exits from us – thankfully that’s about 5 miles out here. We’ve ensconsed ourselve’s at a friend’s house in Reseda while most of the usual occupants are at Burning Man… the irony is not lost on us!

(oy, apparently the smoke has gotten to my brain. I can type, really I can…)

I live over in Eagle Rock and it is pretty bad as well. Though not like it is now in parts of Pasadena. Hang in there. Hopefully, the firefighters will get more containment on the fire today and the weather is supposed to start getting a bit cooler. 90s instead of 100s.

We are up here in Altadena under that cloud of smoke. I am watching what I think is upper Millard canyon burn, one of my favorite places to hike. Still, no houses burned and all are well.

Best wishes from Down Under for all Californians to stay safe.

We have had a number of bushfires start in NSW over the weekend, and one of our southern highways was cut again this morning. It’s frightening, as the bushfire season starts in October, and officially, August is winter! (Though speaking as a gardener, it’s Spring — I’ve planted early tomato seeds.)

Unfortunately, many of our National Guard are…in Iraq or Afghanistan…when we need them here at home to fight fires. One home that went up in smoke during the fires a while back belonged to a National Guardsman. Love to the forests, the crying trees, the confused animals, and the winds who must weep with each zephyr full of departed life.
