When it rains, it pours and that’s certainly happening this winter season! Unlike the miserly 3″ inches we received the whole entire season last year, this year we’ve been blessed with rain.

This storm (and it’s still raining) has brought the urban homestead nearly 4″ of rain since Thursday night. This recent storm brings the total to over 11 inches of rain so far this season – triple of what was the driest year in all recorded history.

More heavy rains are expected today, Saturday and even Sunday. Nope, it’s not over yet. Another wet week it in store, with possible showers on Monday and Wednesday.

Most of the animals haven’t seen this much rain in their lifetime. Only a couple days of rain and the cats and goats are going a bit stir crazy. Not to mention people too, it’s been a long time since we’ve had such long lasting soaking rains. It’s taking some time to get used to “normal” winter weather when so many years have been abnormal.

Gosh, it seems like you guys are getting quite a bit of rain lately! Have you gotten the water hogs hooked up yet? My husband and I built a pretty big rain harvester last year, and even though we live in PA where drought isn’t as much of an issue, it was a lifesaver during a very dry spell over the summer. I can imagine that you guys are in a much more precarious position with rainfall amounts since you’ve got so many plants and depend on them for your food and livelihood.
