The Laundry-Airer is just what I’ve been looking for! But since the dowels are not supplied, does that mean that you can use any length of dowels that you need? Are is there some fixed length that it will accommodate?

  2. Anais says:

    Hi Claire

Thanks for your comment. To answer your question here’s a FAQ blurb about the Laundry Airer

Why aren’t the dowels included with The Laundry-Airer?
It would cost a lot more to ship 5 or 6-foot long boxes. As the dowels are readily available, it is less expensive for the purchaser to buy them on their own.

Where do I get the dowels for The Laundry-Airer?
The dowels can be purchased at lumber stores or at home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. Many hardware stores also carry them.

How many and what size dowels do I buy to fit The Laundry-Airer?
Buy four dowels, 3/4 inch diameter. Buy 5 or 6-foot long dowels and cut them down to the size you need.

How long can The Laundry-Airer be?
We recommend a 4 to 5-foot maximum length. Any longer than that and the dowels might sag. You can make it as short as you want to fit your available space.

Can I paint or stain the dowels?
You can finish the dowels however you like. Be sure to sand them smooth so they won’t snag clothes. If you are going to use The Laundry-Airer to hang wet clothes, be sure to put a waterproof finish on the dowels. Also, check that the finish will not stain the clothes.

Can I use something other than wood dowels on The Laundry-Airer?
If you want to use The Laundry-Airer in the kitchen to hang utensils or baskets, you can use 3/4″ copper pipe in place of the wood dowels. Do not hang clothes directly on copper pipe. If you do use a copper pipe, you may have to file the inside of the 3/4″ holes on the rack ends. As they are cast, there may be burrs on them that would prevent the pipe from sliding through.
