IN THE GARDEN

Another photo montage from the urban homestead.   Enjoy!

Fuzzy peaches

Blackberry brambles

Blueberries are ripening.  I can just taste it now.  Blueberry pancakes with our raw, citrus lavender honey. Heaven!

Smiling violas

Cassidy rests on top of an olla.  Forgot to mention one thing other than ollas being an efficient method of irrigation they are air conditioning for kitties.

She’s in a playful mood.  I ask her “hey, there, you wanna have me rub your belly?”

“Yes, please rub my belly” she meows.  Cassidy is a very talkative cat, always meowing back when you talk to her.  She is our sweetie.

Sunny sunflowers with two wild bees (top right corner of the flower) whose legs are just covered in golden pollen

Kumquats!  Have to say for some reason these tasty delights never seem to make it to the weighing table.  Wonder why?  😉

Old Clemmy.  Still plugging away and ruling the coop since 2002.  She’s one old (and sweet) hen, loving every day she gets a chance to show who’s boss.  I suspect she doesn’t want give up her throne.

Getting ready for some hive expansion!

Harvested 17 lbs of strawberries!  All from our little patch (aka “strawberry field”) in the driveway.  Gotta use all allotted growing space and to us a driveway is just an unnecessary waste of space.

Sorry, we sure ain’t sharing any of these sweet beauties.   We are hoarding this strawberries for jams (sun cooked preserves… photos coming soon!) and desserts and humming “strawberry fields, forever!”

OH I want some of those strawberries! Ours won’t be in until June 1st!

Are your violas edible? I’ve got some that look exactly like that but the tag on mine didn’t specifically say “edible”. Now I’m wondering if they really are….

  7. Ruthie says:

Michelle ~ They are! Look up sugar coated violets or violet ice cubes.

I would love to see a lay-out of your place, to get an idea where I can squeeze in some blueberry bushes or fig trees on my little lot!

Nothing like the smell of fresh Langstroth Beehive’s in the morn :). Are those more deeps or honey supers? Like the blended in green color for that hidden hive look.

    Cheers, David
