HOME HEALTH: COLDS & FLU

We’ve never had a flu shot…ever.  Not even any kind of shot…ever…except for the “shot” of whiskey when sick with a cold!

Fortunately, we don’t get many colds and for that we are grateful.  But when we feel one may be coming on, here are some of the things we do.  Sometimes, it only takes one of these remedies to knock the bugs out.

Over time we’ve learn to…

•    put hydrogen peroxide in our ears.  This tends to get rid of bad bugs lurking around.
•    gargle with Celtic Sea Salt or warm honey
•    use Wellness  tablets
•    add Grapefruit Seed Extract to water as directed and drink .
•    use Oregacyn

We also find that there are two drinks which  tend to ward off a lot of ails : Kombucha (homemade) and Swedish Bitters also homemade Elderberry Syrup with warm lemon juice

Here is another  very simple remedy that is worth looking into. Although we have not tried it, it  seems credible.  Baking soda is amazing for lots of  things.  We have used it here  for some ailments and it does work. If you want aluminum free baking soda iherb has it here

We have had great success with these and seldom have had any type of bad cold of flu. Previously, when our bodies had succumbed to the inevitable because we started the protocol too late, we would just do “hot toddies” and wait it out.  It also helped.  Just put some brandy or whiskey in  hot water with lemon juice and honey, then drink.

But, recently, we have found an amazing natural aid when you find yourself with the flu.  This one health tip should be shouted from the rooftops.  It is hard to  believe that something this simple can be so effective; yet, that is exactly what it is.

One family member recently experienced a flu bug that produced unbelievably painful symptoms.  All the other natural means which had usually worked were totally ineffective against this particular strain. It attacked swiftly and viciously with a  pain that was unbearable.  The only thing we could think of was the fever needed to be relieved and that a bath would help sweat the toxins out.  Then we remembered an age old remedy which would help one sweat the toxins out during a bath–ginger root.  We quickly grated some fresh ginger root and added it to a tub of hot water.  Within minutes, sweat began pouring out of every possible pore.  Not only that, but even after the bath the sweating continued.  The relief was instantaneous.  Later during the day, another ginger bath was taken. To see the remarkable change in the  person now after the horrific pain he had experienced previously was an eye opener .  Had we done the bath at the first sign of a flu, there probably would not have been any flu to contend with.  From then on, this was to be our first line of defense for any cold or flu. .

We would just caution anyone trying this to monitor themselves and not allow yourself to get too dizzy during the bath.  Go slowly and stay in the water as long as it feels comfortable to you.  We would suggest that before embarking on a ginger bath, while very safe, do an internet search to see if there any precautions if you have a known medical condition, just to play it  safe.

    Although I started out life on the wrong healing foot with alopathy, I’m now living a reformed life as far as health is concerned. We sure think alike. We do hot ginger baths at our place for many ills, but we also have the patient (victim) drink copious amounts of warm distilled water or herbal infusions. For invading pathogens we stop eating solid foods and start taking a tincture 2-3 times a day of White Oak Bark, Golden Seal Root, Myrrh Gum, Comfrey Root, Garlic Bulb and Cayenne Pepper extracted with scotch or everclear. Of course we put our tincture in a bit of boiling water to rid it of the alcohol content. Then we drink varying infusions of yarrow, ginger, peppermint, elderberry, red raspberry leaf, red clover tea, orange peel, marshmallow root, licorice, slippery elm bark, and cinnamon. If the ear is involved we use garlic oil with mullien and lobelia tincture.

      Wonderful list of herbs, thanks for sharing! Mullein tincture is great, I used it to combat my asthma attacks. Cayenne pepper is great too. Forgot to mention that one!

    Anais, although I’m not one to have all the herbal remedies, I do believe that good food and exercise will go a long way to keeping the body healthy. I try to stay away from processed foods and eat foods with as few ingredients as possible. One ingredient foods are the most healthy. If they are alive that’s even better. I’m talking about raw lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots etc. when I say alive. I supplement my food with fish oil, garlic, coral calcium, and vitamin C capsules. The only seasoning that I use is Mrs. Dash, garlic powder, and chopped onions. Salt is never used in cooking or on the table. There’s plenty of salt in the vegetables we eat. If I feel a sickness coming on I gargle with salt water and start nasal and sinus cleansing. Nasal cleansing works ever so much better antihistamine. Old bones kind of hurt once in a while after a long day of hard labor so on occasion I will take asprin for painful joints. Oh, yeah, speaking of painful joints, one other supplement is the concentrated cherry juice daily.

    I have nothing against herbal remedies but for this one ingredient guy they just seem too complicated to mix up and store all the ingredients.

    Stay well and prosper. No wait that was live long and prosper, wasn’t it? Well, if you live long you have to stay well. Right?

    The thymus gland is part of our immune system and tapping (or thumping) it stimulates it. A nutritionist taught this to me 10 or so years ago and it really works. It is best to thump a few times every day, but when you feel a cold or other illness coming on thumping frequently wards off the illness. For me, it works 99% of the time.     I’m interested how you uses hydrogen peroxide in your ears. Do you have 35% and dilute it and use an eye dropper to put it in? Sounds like a good thing to do. I bet you hear all the crackling when it goes in?

      Just dip a q-tip in straight peroxide then swab ear.

        Hi, when you say straight peroxide you mean 3%, like what you buy at the store in a brown bottle, right? I can’t imagine using straight peroxide.

        We used to make a “magic potion” with equal portions of ginger root and garlic bulbs, chopped up and covered with water. Heat to below boiling and let steep for 15 minutes to half an hr or so, then strain and sip. I always added peppermint leaves to it, because it could really upset your stomach otherwise. The peppermint kind of prevented that.
        We have really good results using H2O2. It is simply great for sinus. I have treated real humdingers of sinus infection with it. The worst was a few years ago, my whole head was in pain, every tooth was hurting me and I never had a headache like it before. I am prone to sinus problems, a cold wind can set me off. I was to be matron of honor at a friends wedding, and it did not seem to budge, I almost despaired and thought of maybe going to a Dr. after all, when it broke after three days. Then it was dramatic. What I do, I have a nasal spray bottle that I emptied, rinsed and then filled with water and 3 % H2O2 to make a 2% solution. I simply spray it in my nostrils. I also spray it into my mouth and inhale it. It is cheap and effective. When you need it, it burns somewhat. I tried it with my grandson, he was not happy. If you are well, it does not burn. Odd.

    This was a really interesting post. I’ve never had a flu shot…never ever, and I don’t intend on ever getting one. It’s the “uncertainty” factor that I don’t like…no matter how small the percentage is of something going wrong.

    I’ve been eating healthy/real food since September 1st and my health is amazing and getting better everyday 🙂 🙂

    I haven’t had a flu in probably 10 years…but part of that was because my naturopath discovered that I had a problem with hypothyroid..however, now that I’m eating the right way, I’m still keeping myself away from the flu 🙂 🙂 OH, that and if I even feel a remote sign of the sniffles, I stay away from sugar and dairy. That seems to work for me 🙂 🙂
