FLASH FROM THE PAST

Channel98Worldwide.com presents a classic presentation of a lost film about the original victory garden. The inspiration for the long running PBS TV Show, this film has not been seen for 50 years.

There’s a new homegrown (organic) movement afoot.  Check PTF’s homegrown social network site, Freedom Gardens. Share, connect with fellow food fighters who are growing for a secure and free future.

Great video! Crazy how we used to think it was ok for kids to mix up chemicals and apply pesticide dust with no protective gear! Thanks for sharing

This is soooooooo interesting! Jane, the 16 year old, gardens in white socks and a dress. And her little brother is spraying poisons like calcium arsenate!

    Google “calcium arsenate”.

But I was no expert either: I watched the PBS show, Crockett’s Victory Garden” for more than a year before I realized that what was being grown in the Boston area wouldn’t necessarily work in Texas. That was in the late 1970’s. Now I grow things organically with no synthetics and I am still learning every day thanks to great websites like PTF and FreedomGardens.org!

    Thank you Dervae Family!

Wow. Interesting. Totally creeped me out watching them casually use the chemicals. You know, I swear I have less problems with bugs BECAUSE I don’t use the chemicals. Still, the video was a sweet view of life as it used to be. And the size of their garden! I am so envious.

What a gem of a video.
Yes the chemcials were ‘ill-used’ by our standards, but I imagine this was just common practise back then.
Thank you for showing this to us, it is wonderful to have an insight into the lives of others many years ago.

I saw that about a month ago from a link on FG. I too thought it humorous in a freightening sort of way about the chemicals they used. Of course my mother used to play with mercury as a child.

Boy do I wish I had that kind of land to grow.
