“If enough people think of a thing and work hard enough at it, I guess it’s pretty nearly bound to happen, wind and weather permitting.”

– Laura Ingalls Wilder

Blessed again this week with some decent rain.  The liquid sunshine rode in on a low front bringing with it chilly temperatures, some hail and snow to our local mountains.  Hope our Eastern readers who live in the path of the unseasonal and devastating tornadoes are safe and OK.

After a dreary and chilly few days, Blackberry soaks up the sunshine. She meditates and ponders the world’s greatest issues … peace in the middle-east, climate change, the future of our world… and if we’ll be saving her any bday cake.

There were  rumors circulating on Facebook that it was so cold that Blackberry had to wear a sweater.  This rumor happens to be true!  Because of the warm winter, the goatsies were shedding their warm wintery undercoat early this year.  Whilst I was out in the animal compound feeding the animals, I noticed that Blackberry was shaking, so I went in and got her a second-hand red sweater.

For those who are keeping track, it was Blackberry’s bday this week.  She’s 5 years old and she gives her (“maaaaa”) regards to all those who wished her a happy one!

Next week stay tuned for what NatGeo channel didn’t show, February Harvest Tally, Vegetable Planner Giveaway winners and another chance to win!

Anais, what exactly are the ingredients for a goat birthday cake. Would it be a small bale of hay with a carrot for the candle. I don’t remember keeping track of the family pet birthdays but then again I was not the pet person in the family. My wife was the animal person. Over the course of our marriage with kids we had quite an assortment of pets which only two rabbits were mine and they resided in the garage. Their names were Amos and Andy.

So far my area in Nebraska has escaped all the bad weather. There’s another great weather day slated for today. Yesterday I was outside in the 50 degree weather all day. It was a little windy but that will dry the garden soil a little faster. I checked and the ground is not frozen but is still very wet. Maybe another week or two before gardening can begin.

I hope the weather warms up for you and Blackberry. Where’s the Blackberry-sweater picture? Camera shy, huh. In my humble opinion warm is better than fashionable.

    Have a great day.

I just have to say your quotes from Laura Ingalls Wilder always bring back such fond memories. I used to watch the shows all the time with my Mother, she also bought me the book collection which I now have in my cedar chest hoping my daughter will enjoy them just as much as I did. My Mother passed away a few months ago from Lung and Brain cancer, these type of memories I will always hold dear to my heart. Thank you for bringing back the Little House on The Prairie memories.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

First of all I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Many thanks!
