Wow, ya”ll put up a great bunch of comments/contributions to the Time Management post – check it out if you missed it. Thanks for some great dialogue!
There’s lots happening here on the urban homestead, I can’t even begin to start with details. So I am going to let pictures do the “talking.”
Once again here’s a pictorial post of what’s happening on the homefront.
Enjoy!
Something Fishy Going On
New critter additions to the urban homestead – fishes!
Working a aquaponics contraption
Brewmeister
Jordanne’s, our head brew mistress, been busy in the kitchen whipping up some wonderful drinks like ginger soda, beer and bugs. Yeah bug!
Jordanne starts a ginger “bug” with grated ginger, yeast, sugar and raisins
Now all we have to do is feed “the lil buggy”
Sun Worshipers
When it comes to sunshine, our goats just love the warm morning rays. Ahhhhhhh
Of course, “her ladyship”, Fairlight has to come in and hog the camera. Can’t stand not getting all the attention herself.
Fun With Veggies
Harvesting the heads of cabbage
Cabbage head, sprouts pigtails!
Eats & Treats
More marmalade
Baking goodies
Mending & Maintenance
Fixing our new clothes line
Our new solar clothes dryer ready for action
Maintaining the hives
Hope you are enjoying all the pics, because there’s more coming up. Stay tuned for part 2.

March 9, 2010 at 7:14 amI’m going to have to direct my husband to this post. He has been wanting to do something regarding fish, indoor food, and aquaponics for quite some time. I would love to hear if you have any good resources for this.

March 9, 2010 at 8:35 amStop with the goat pictures will you please. I just love the critters and you are going to make me go find a couple goats. They are such lovable creatures. Even when they are bad you can not help but love them. Thanks for all you do.

March 9, 2010 at 9:43 amYour new clothesline looks like mine. Ours lasted about 3 years and then the plastic pieces on the tensioner gave out and hubby had to go in and patch them up – yay for him having metalworking skills! Replacing the entire contraption at a cost of $60 for a $0.50 plastic piece (they don’t sell parts) would have made me CRANKY. The new parts look kinda funny, but it still works great!

March 9, 2010 at 2:40 pmCute fish! Looks like carp… (hard to tell from the pic.) I do hope their new home is large enough and has already been fully cycled as they look fairly good sized!

March 9, 2010 at 5:00 pmWe are starting to raise bees this year. We just got the hives, not too long ago, and have bees ordered. We have been buying honey from my uncle, who raises bees, so I have been trying to learn to bake with honey. Ooohh! It’s so good!!! I love to see what other people are doing with bees… My son even wanted a bees suit for his 9th birthday! SO, we got him one so he can learn to help!
It would be interesting to keep seeing posts about your aquaponics adventure… I have a friend who has been wanting to try it. Keep up the posts on your fishies!
As always, love the pics from your homestead! 🙂

March 9, 2010 at 8:47 pmI’m really fascinated by Aquaponics, that’d be so cool to do… right now we have a new big project so that will keep us busy for a while. We just cracked open a 20 x 20 feet area of concrete that hadn’t seen sun in 50+ years and we’re going to let nature do it’s work to soften and till the soil for us. (putting in some grass clippings from neighbors lawns, add some worms, compost, finding some local top soil to add in, etc) We want to make the soil nice and ready before we put in the new veggie beds:
