CANNING CAPTION WINNER IS…

"..... insert caption here..."

Boy howdy,  this contest sure was a tough one since there was really NO wrong answer….

We did enjoy reading through all of the comments – thanks to everyone who entered and shared his or her views on captioning the pic!  The many comments gave us a good chuckle; however, these were the ones we liked the most

FIRST PRIZE

Goes to….

Jim

“Don’t tell Dad, but I think we just picked his prize heirloom herb!”

RUNNERS UP

Cindy and a very clever take

Anais: “Hush Jordanna, I’m listening to the wise sage’s last words”

Candi and her amusing

Anais, mumbled under her breath: “Did I just do what I think I did? Do you think anyone else will notice?”
Jordanne, mumbled equally: “Yeah, I’m pretty sure they’re going to notice that you used 4 cups of salt instead of sugar.”

Jan Jorgensen and her HIGHLY humorous

Did we give that nice policeman the wrong herb bag?

Of course, Justin gets an HONORABLE MENTION

“Are We Putting Up ‘Pot’?”

…but, of course,  he’s not eligible to win any prize. But I’m sure he’ll sneak  something from the pantry.

First prize will get a jar of jam or honey and the runners up a gorgeous and humorous 2012 calendar.

Good news to those of you who are waiting for the “Little Homestead” 2012 calendars – they are now in stock and have been shipped!    I know many a fine reader who is collecting them and this is the third one we’ve done and I, personally, think you are going to enjoy the photos that we chose.

OK, now to answering inquiring minds what actually happened and what were sis and I were thinking.     Canning class was about to begin and one of the ladies wanted to make blueberry sage jam.   Usually this is not a problem; but nobody had brought any cheese cloth in which to put the sage.   What we  would usually do is cut up the herbs into pieces and put them in a cheese cloth bag and remove the cheese cloth with herbs when we were done.  So sis and I were mulling over our little situation.  Everyone was waiting and so the pressure was on to come up with a quick solution…. didn’t take us long.  We just decided to put two nice sprigs in with the blueberries and then we could (hopefully!)  find and pull out the sage sprigs before putting the jam into jars.

All is well that ends well.

Thanks to Kimberly for snapping this priceless one moment in canning time picture.

So that’s what you were thinking. I knew you two were in deep thought about solving some problem. I glad it all worked out for you. It was fun to think about different captions to fit the picture. I’m a little envious of Justin who can raid the yummy stuff in the pantry any time he wants.

Have a great day in the California sun. Well, the sun was shining here too but it probably wasn’t as warm as there. :0)

That’s so awesome you told us your thoughts! What a fun canning session. I think I am going to try some of my neighbors pineapple guava for a jam or add in to a jam Hopefully today!

You know, I think I’m more excited about winning a calendar as a runner up than getting the honey for the main prize! I went back and read through the submissions and there were some pretty entertaining ones in there!
