BETWEEN THE DROPS

Has it stopped raining yet?

Hmmm, a new project in the works.  Wonder what it could be?

All wet. With the rainy season upon us out come the ollas till spring.

Soaked.  The row covers sag under the heavy moisture.

Rain kissed tomatoes

Lovely snow peas

Under the row covers

Mystery solved.  It’s a solar wax melter!

Rainy Days & Monday

Yesterday, the storm dumped quite a substantial amount of rain on the urban homestead – over 2 1/2 inches to be exact.  It was certainly a decent and cold storm!   Looks like they changed the forecast a bit – it’s going to be cold but not as cold as forecasted.

Last night while checking on the animals before heading off to bed (well, not really I had a date with Mr Laptop)  I could see Justin out in the garden checking the temperature gauges.   He reported that it was 35 degrees meaning we could have a freeze over night if the all clouds left us unprotected.

On first inspection this morning no sign of frost damage in the garden (too wet to freeze Justin assessed) though there is ice on the roof, the car and it’s very, very cold/damp.

This morning the storm looks to be clearing out and that can only mean a bitter cold night tonight and even tomorrow.  However, maybe I speaking too soon!  Checking the weather they have rain tonight and even tomorrow.  So we’ll see.

All I know is it’s downright ccccold.  But no time to commiserate, animals need to be feed and after storm clean up in the garden.

Oh. there’s getting ready to duck sit our friends duckies and the co-op pick up today.  Busy, busy.

Oh, your produce and plants make me envious. It gives me new drive to get a really good greenhouse. My cold framing efforts have failed. We have had very few sunny days and it is now hovering around 0 without the wind chill only to get colder in January and February. For now I must live vicariously through my seed catalogs and your wonderful website and blog. Thank you so much for your efforts to educate me and others. The chip in was still not working when I looked at it after I read “between the drops”

I’m really excited to hear about the solar wax melter I am planning on getting bees next spring and I was also planning on making a solar wax melter, but I wasn’t sure how well they worked. I hope you keep us updated oh how it works out for you.
