While Jordanne is hard at work making upgrades (looking good btw!) on our blog, here’s a little pictorial interlude for your enjoyment of one of the many hummingbirds to visit the garden each morning.
This time around, I was prepared and had a camera ready for the action! While watering the garden, they enjoy a fresh drink and morning bath from the hose.
From what I can tell, this one looks to be a young female Rufous Hummingbird.
My sisters tease me because I seem to attract our resident hummingbirds while I’m outside. They often remark that the little hummers probably have a crush on me – whatever. What’s with my sisters anyway?

July 15, 2011 at 4:47 pmI’ve tried to attract these Lil’ Hummers in my CC yard; but only to the briefest appearance. Everyone else in the neighborhood hangs out; parasoidal wasps, bees, grasshoppers, squirrels, chipmunks, baltimore orioles, robins which are so sheepish with the very vocal crows & also the abundance of blackbirds and red-wing tipped blackbirds, bunnies with their babies and hang out all day sleeping in secure locations (under carpet roses … great wild bun food BTW and bee attractor), chickadees, woodpeckers, bats, etc. Maybe I “blink” and I might see a hummingbird stopping by a mallow plant or echinecea (sp). Thanks so much for these gorgeous photos! Made my day!

July 16, 2011 at 8:01 amI think the age-old question must be asked…why, indeed, do birds suddenly appear everytime you are near? 😛

July 17, 2011 at 1:45 pmLooks like either a female or immature male Rufous Hummingbird. Here in SoCal, we get Rufous, Black-Chinned, Anna’s, Allen’s, Calliope and Costa’s Hummingbirds.
