Has always been a way of homebased economy here on the urban homestead.  With the launch of Freedom Gardens it’s spurred a few local friendships and local food connections.

Of course, we can’t raise everything we eat here on the ‘stead; however, we refrain from even shopping for organic produce at stores or even at farmer’s market figuring if we can’t grow it than we won’t eat it.  But that sort of byline doesn’t prevent us from trading and bartering with local gardeners in farmers in the area.

Community Event this Sunday!

Are you cultivating a garden and have more than enough?  Of are you wanting to learn to grow your own food?

Join us for a swap, meet, greet and eat this Sunday starting at 5:30 pm at the private school grounds (626 Cypress Ave, Pasadena) located directly across the street from our urban homestead.

For fun and education,  Jordanne will be bringing the goats and perhaps even a few chickens!

So come on down and barter homegrown and homemade goodies!

I’ve never wanted to live in California, but I sure wish I could take part in your gatherings….they sound like so much fun!

I also wish I could come to meet you all. In fact I think it’s going on my ‘Bucket List’ that one day my son and I make a trip to Pasadena (from Victoria, BC Canada) to see your gorgeous homestead and to meet you. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

p.s. my 3.5 yr old son and I are in the throws of starting our first backyard food-producing garden this year – which I hope to be the beginning of a whole new way of life for us. And it’s because of your family that I have such inspiration to do this.
