Introducing… cute and fluffy baby quackers.
Couldn’t help ourselves, had to name this batch after characters in the British TV hit “Call the Midwife”
Jenny Lee
Chummy
Julienne
Evangeline
Monica Joan
Trixie
Cynthia
Bernadette
This is our third batch of ducks in 12 years – they’ve all be the heritage Khaki Campbell breed. This year we added a cousin of the Khaki’s, Welsh Harlequin
Some “homesteady” goals for next year. We are thinking about expanding our backyard menagerie to quail. Been mulling over raising quail for over a decade now and think we just might have found the ideal backyard aviary for them.
What are your short/long term goals for your homestead?

November 1, 2013 at 12:38 amCongrats on the baby ducklings! Oh my gosh, they’re ADORABLE!
Yes, I think you *should* raise quail because there are a lot of people (like myself) who would love to have quail eggs for various recipes. I’m sure several chefs would love to have quail eggs, too, especially since they’d be organically raised by people they can *trust.*
THANK YOU for all you do. We love your urban farm, even though we don’t make it over there too often. You folks are *fabulous*! 🙂

November 18, 2013 at 9:36 amHeard about the Poultry for beginners class and attempted to notify the Homestead I have some Muscovy ducklings needing a home. They were rescued from a pond where the owner was not good on predator protection. I have 3 ducks (one Muscovy hen, too) so can’t take more waterfowl, but offered to help these lil ones find homes. Please call me at 310-374-4779 —ducks are wonderful pets, beautiful, comic, and the hens lay eggs.
