It’s officially Spring and what a rocky start weather wise. We spiked into the 90’s for a few days and then dipped back under 60 with gray skies and drizzle.

To be able to get the most from your garden, successive plantings are a must. Yet, doing so is challenging for so many reasons.
GROWING HOME
local outreach work on Saturday which was held at a private home for a gathering of ladies young and old . The theme was about “bringing the revolution home” and how we must re-skill in order to be less dependent on outside resources or “the yellow pages.”
RAIN!
It rained over an inch this week. The garden is drinking it the much needed watering after a dry January. There’s still more rain to come. What a blessing!
URBAN HOME-STAND
Thank you for coming up and making our first( of hopefully many) “Homestand’s” a positive and successful event (estimated nearly 200 dropped in throughout the day). Also a big thank you to those who came bearing homemade gifts and complimentary comments. We appreciate your support!
JANUARY 2011 HARVEST TALLY
Here we are again, a new year and a new tally. After last years record breaking harvest of over 3 1/2 tons ( 7,000 pounds ) of produce, will be interesting to see what this year will bring. And as any farmer knows it all depends on the weather and keeping the plants healthy to ward off disease and bag bugs.
AROUND THE URBAN HOMESTEAD
Living in Southern California, there’s not really much down time for us homesteaders-farmers. Only one more month left in 2010 and already projects and plans are being hatched for 2011.
URBAN FARMING DILEMMAS
After 25 years of growing food here on our city plot in Pasadena, we’ve had to deal with a whole lot of yard issues. Many of you who have been following our decade old blog know that when moving here and starting our first city farm, we had to deal with lifeless soil and junk!
