Wintr, that is. Yesterday, we were baking under a hot sun with temperatures in the 80’s and slightly dry Sana Anna wind. Towards evening, you could feel the shift in the wind (funny how you sense the smallest change). Waking up this morning, I found it cool and cloudy! By afternoon it was raining – pouring, [...]
Well, sadly, our laptop died so I am behind in bringing you all the latest happenings from the ’stead.
We did get some rain and temperatures are back to normal – cold. After the rain clouds left last night up went the row covers. Good thing because this morning there’s ice. Though the warm weather [...]

When Wild & Scenic Film Festival came calling they had us down for 12 minutes. While editing Jordanne was [...]
I didn’t have a chance to post what we urban homesteaders ate last week before hauled off to Nevada City.
Last week we feasted on green tomatoes and I couldn’t resist and went to the “dark side” and made some absolutely delicious apple fritters with the leftover apple pomace from the cider pressing event. By the [...]
Thanks to last Sunday’s event we have loads of sweet apple pulp.
So what to do with a fridge overflowing with dozens of ziplocks.
Since our freezer is packed with frozen homegrown goodies, I dolled out some of the ziplocks to a friends freezer (thanks!).
As for the rest, thanks to my southern roots I have got a [...]

We’ve been asked whether we are going to be hosting another event this month. With the holidays we weren’t really sure, but given that a there a so many folks wanting us to host another event we thought we could squeeze in another between Xmas and New Years. Why not? These events are such fun!
Unlike [...]
Since we can no longer host any public events here on the urban homestead because our community events now draw upwards of 120 people ( only have space for no more the 50, well, maybe not even that) we are making use of our very large garage. Which for awhile there, it started to become [...]
