HOMEGROWN POTATOES
Time to harvest our Po-ta-Toes!
Here in So Cal, where we have a to be desired growing season, started the potatoes back in December.

KOMBUCHA
Some folks say the benefits of kombucha are a bunch of hooey and most recently this brew was steeped in controversy. But according the “fermenters bible,” Nourishing Traditions, Kombucha has quite a few important health benefits.

Here on the urban homestead, our connection with the land and caretakers of creation we celebrate the blessings of First Fruits.
GARDEN OF EATIN’
I just LOVE this time of year, don’t you? What a joy it is to look about the garden, witness seedlings pushing through the soil and anticipating the first fruits and vegetables of the summer season.
RE-QUEENING
In the apiary, queens rule. The queen bee determines the whole chemistry, demeanor and health of the hive.
ANOTHER HIVE!
Upon her return from a goat walk this weekend, my sister informed me that one of my bait hives was FULL of bees. Sweet!
DOWNSIZING THE HONEY COMB
Natural (smaller) cells are better especially those of us who are choosing chemical and antibiotic free hives.

APRIL HARVEST TALLY
Wacky weather whiplash pattern continues. Last week it was a scorching 95 degrees then quicker than you can say “summer’s here?” few days later it’s cold, overcast and raining!
