FIRST FREEZE
Twas a cold one last night!
Parts of the garden that weren’t covered sustained some frost damage. Much will recover but it’s certainly a set back.
MASTERING URBAN HOMESTEADING?
Since urban homesteading is our life we are ever so busy doing and very little time time to write about what we were doing except for here on the journal – which acts our a chronology or diary of an urban homesteader.
CITY FARMING: IT CAN BE DONE
One family in Pasadena, Calif., took this idea and ran with it. Nearly every nook and cranny of their yard sprouts something edible. Last year, they grew more than 5,000 pounds of food, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, honey and more. And they live within a stone’s throw of Pasadena’s bustling shopping district.
RAINY DAY PROJECTS
We So Cal folks aren’t used to weather. Yep, word is that we are spoiled and we haven’t a clue what to do when weather happens. But for us weather is good, weather forces us to change routines, get creative and perhaps tackle projects that have been on the “to do list” for ages.
IS IT OVER?
Yes, I think I see it! Could it be? A patch of blue skies?
Yesterday the biggest storm we’ve seen in years dumped 3.5” of rain giving us a five day rain unprecedented rain total of 15.5” Incredible!
ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT
Jordanne joked the other day that she thought she saw the animals lining up two by two! Glad someone has a sense of humor because this rain is turning streets into rivers!
BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES
The buckets are ready to catch the rainfall, animal compound is secure, cob oven covered, craft projects line up. Bring it on!
GROWING COMMUNITY: Palm Springs
Over 100 people turned out from all over the south land, thanks for coming out and making this just a wonderful and high energy event!
HAND WASHING
Recently, we had an “episode” with our eight year old energy/water efficient washing machine. Although we do wash by hand, we do use our machine especially when things get a little rushed around here
