Saturday, with temps skyrocketing into the upper 90's, we went down to visit Farmer Sergio, and enjoyed a picnic in the shade by a cool stream. The farm was so quiet, the shade so relaxing and the water so soothing it really did wonders to mellow us out after a LONG week. Thanks, Farmer Sergio, for the picnic invite. We had a lovely time and, next time, we bring our swimsuits!

Making up some lunch: homemade lemonade with lemon verbena, potato salad (with herbs and edible flowers) meatless turkey sandwiches topped with cucumber relish and heirloom lettuce. For dessert two kinds of chocolate brownies!

Then it was off to the beach to table at Encinitas Environmental Day on Sunday and visit with all the wonderful folks down there - John, Jamie and all the great bunch of volunteers. Thank you all for your generous hospitality and invite back again. It was great to hear from folks how our film and being there last year had ya'll digging gardens and raising chickens!
Also, a big thank you to all those who stopped by our booth to swap howdies and supported our outreach by making a few purchases from the good's we were peddling.

Thank you for coming to Encinitas and for showing your beautiful film! I loved chatting about growing food in the front yard and raising chickens in the back. You are all an inspiration to me, makes me want to keep doing more..at home and in our schools.

I am enjoying one of those very peaches with my breakfast of yogurt and granola this morning. They are de-licious!
The tomatoes have already grown so much since we were there!
@Lily: I know they ARE yummy! I told Farmer Sergio to save/sell us any extras, crossing my fingers! Hoping to make some peach jam. Did he show off those tomatoes he feed the nettle brew to and the ones he didn't WOW, what a difference! I am jealous, he says he has 8 huge barrels of nettle brew. So hard to find so much nettle growing wild here.
No he didn't point out that difference between the tomatoes that I recall. Maybe we can go pick nettle with him next season if there is that much growing wild in the area...
We are supposed to see him tomorrow to help remove a colony of bees that have taken up residence at his house. I was hoping to buy some peaches for preserves as well, I hope he has enough left over for me at some point this season!
@Lily: I forgot to take a picture but the nettle tomatoes vs the non nettle tomatoes were pretty impressive. Good luck with the bee removal, seems a tricky one with them being in the siding. Did ya'll find a place to keep bees.
As for the peaches, hoping too!
