DISPATCHES FROM THE URBAN HOMESTEAD pt 4

Posted by Anais Dervaes

Snoozing on the straw bale

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Packing seeds and shipping them out.  Thanks to those of you who are supporting FreedomSeeds.org

Saturday Social. Party at the urban homestead -- table full of good food!  That plate of homemade biscuits on the left were dangerous - dangerously good in that I could polish off the whole plate.  Have a weakness for bread!  Folks brought salad with greens from the garden, homemade desserts and dishes - thanks everyone for a great spread.

Catching up with friends

Playing cards and chatting with new acquaintances.

Chocolate!  V Day gifts from friends.  Thank you!

Sunday stroll in the Arroyo Seco.

Jordanne picks some cactus pads.   Stay tuned for why in a later post.

Look at that face!

Ok, you are killing me here Blackberry

Stop!

I said, stop!  You are just too cute. OK, I have to walk away now....

We are almost done!  Stay tuned for the last and final series of picture posts!

  1. I have a weakness for bread too. Seriously, I would turn into a loaf of sourdough if I didn't watch myself.
Thanks for sharing all the updates!

  2. Hey, I just came across this and knew you guys would be interested:

"The SF Underground Market is the realization of an idea I had in early December while driving across the Bay Bridge. I know all these people who make things: sauerkraut, kombucha, soap, pies, beef jerky, homegrown veggies. Many had dreams of starting a small business with their creations, but lacked the resources. It costs a lot to start a food business... "

  3. Bread, don't even get me started! :)

Don't you just love the faces of goats! They are SO expressive! And they really are so much fun! We just got our 2 "momma" goats in January. They are supposed to have some babies, and I cannot wait for those precious little faces!

    Love the pics!

  4. Our local film festival here in Powell River, BC screened "Homegrown" this past weekend. What an amazing inspiring story! Our community has been making the push towards local sustainability, and less dependency on outside food, especially since we live in an isolated community. Our family has a challenging lot to transform, but we started today constructing our first 4 raised beds. Hopefully it will grow quickly! Thank you for sharing your story!

  5. Love the little goatie pictures!Nopalitos,my favorite!Very good for diabetes also.Growing up in Nevada and Texas I always picked my own prickly pear pads and making jam from the "pears".
