Pet goat
Q. Would it be a mistake to get just one Nigerian dwarf? We are considering such as a pet, with the idea of leading him daily to browse in our woods - lots of ivy!

A. There is no "mistake" in getting one goat. However, goats are "herd" animals and need companionship, so if you're planning to spend time with the animal - great. Most people who don't have a lot of time to spend with their pets usually get two. Otherwise, some people have reported that their single goat will spend time calling for companionship. It's best to get two.
Do you know much about goats, or male goats in particular? Male goats have a few more behavioral problems than females.

I had so much fun when my daughter was in FFA (FutureFarmers of America) and she had 2 momma goats & 6 (yes, SIX!) baby goats in our Chatsworth garage and backyard. They are truely 'pack animals' and were a full pack of TEN with our 2 DOGS! They would rush around the pool jumping up & down the steps and do their little 'crazy' hops for no reason but joy I think. They even got BETTER than the dogs at SQUEEZING thru the backdoor trying to get into the house with us!
I do suggest 2 goats if you're not going to be with them most the day as they may cry at your door ALL DAY LONG out of loneliness ;-( They are truely amazing animals and way to smart for their own good
